Edwina Matthew’s poem “Power” is a poem I can agree with. In the poem Matthew point out that power is not one thing. Everyone have a different version of what power is. For some power is money other it can be a feeling. Sit power is a feeling power is all the activities that lead up to it. An example is some people fell powerfully when they help someone, or when they are just with friends and family. Power can be anything and everything but can it be nothing. If you ask me power can be nothing. Let look at it this way. If someone think that power is money and someone else think that power is something else. The second person would think that the other people power is nothing.

Something are just not made to last. The thing that can not last was a friendship in the story Jinx by Aimee Bender. The story Jinx is a story about two friends one of the friends is thinking about a guy and dich the other one. Because of this the friend that ditched. Ather that they slow stop talking to each other. This is all about the Rites of passage. As time move on the was you look at thang will change. Sometime the change is so small that you do not even notice, like having a different favorite color. Sometime the change is big like find or stop loving someone. In story it is a big change.

When someone have a big change is when the problem start. When the who the girl left her friend, Tina, did not think much of it but Cathy, the other girl, got tired of wanting and left. The next time they talk they already started to separate from each other. Sometime this can not be avoided something are just not made to work out. For some of us it is happening right now. You and your friends are starting to talk to new people and less with each other and it is ok. That just means you and you friends are changing. Sometime the problem is that one of you change. Like in the story Tina change but Cathy didn’t. The change was to like a guy. Since one of them change and the other did end a friendship. Have you had a friend that use to be cool in the past but as you change they stay the same. Sooner or later you will stop hanging out with them just like the two girls in the story.

 In the picture above it shows a pole that is decorated for christmas. This reminds me of a short story I read this week. The short story is by Grarge Saunders and the name of the Sticks. The short story is about a son and his view on his dad and the dad pole. The story begins on thanksgiving night with the dad decorated the pole for christmas, just like the one in the picture. The dad decorated the pole for different events like for Super Bowl, Fourth of July, Veterans Day, Halloween, and lastly when the mom died.

Just like in the picture above the dad finds the pole an art. But with the dad treat it as the only art. When the son was young the dad only allowed to take one crayola box at a time. Also one time on Christmas Eve the dad got made at one of his sons for wasting an apple slice. To me the dad only show happiness with the pole he decorated. The dad most likely has trouble showing his emotion. The pole can also be his mental Health.

In the story at the end when the mom died the dad begin to make the pole with complexity and less logic decorated. Just like the picture below. As time went on the pole got more complex. His last pole was a yellow pole with with cotton six cross sticks. Then the dad died and the son sold the hose the the couple throw out the pole. Which can means that the son is moving on past his dad death

Just the other day I read the book How to Read Literature Like a Professor by Thomas c. The book can teach you how to look at books in a different way although some of the time ,at least to me, it felt like the arthur will go off topic some of the time. The book also gives you a look at how he, The rthur Thomas, looks at the book he reads . In this blog I am going to look at some of the chapters like.

In the first chapter Thomas said that every quest have five thangs. The quester the person going on the quest. A place to go where the quest is. The reason to go, why they go on a quest. The test, the problems on the quest ,and the real reason for a quest which is self-knowledge.

In an anime I watched had all five things that made a quest. In fullmetal alchemist brotherhood had a quester Edward Elric and Alphonse Elric. A place to go all over the country of Amestris.

Reason to go to get their bodies back. Test the homunculus and the real reason to go is which in this case is the same as the reason to go.

One thing I have learned is that there are two types of violence in literature, the violence cause by the characters like in tokyo ghoul when the ghoul fight each other. The other type is the one cause by the writer like in the same anime when the main character almost get crushed by a steel beam.
